Subject: [GM-L] Marriage Age in 1842

Hello Everyone:

Would anyone know what age a woman had to be to marry in 1842.
I know Jessie (Arbuckle) Andrews married on March 17, 1842 in Essex,
Mass. On her death registration, I have been told it says she died
on May 1,1887 at age 61 years, 1 month & 12 days. I calculate that
to be that she was born about March 20,1826 so she was not quite
16 when she married. Any ideas would be appreciated.
