Subject: [GM-L] Naturalization of Eliza Ellen DAY
Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2001 05:12:18 EDT
Hi List, I recently found my grandmother in Somerville,MA on the 1920 census.
Sunday as I was studying it again, I realized that she had indicated(I
presume she's the one answering the questions) that she had been naturalized
in 1907. I thought to myself WHOOPEE, now I'll finally be able to find out
where in England she was born. Then checking out the NARA site, I realized
that since 1907 is the year she got probably got married (I' m guessing,
since my Mom, her oldest child was born in 1908) she probably got her
American citizenship when she married my grandfather (who was born in RI) So
there probably are no naturalization papers. Since I am on a limited fixed
income I like to be sure of my facts before I send for "official documents"
that can add up fast dollarwise. To make a long story short (or shorter).
Will SKS please tell me I'm wrong and there will be papers I can send for,
providing me with the elusive place of birth (everything I find, just says
England) Thanks for any help or advice. Sandy
