Essex County Vital Records CD from Search & ReSearch pre-1750
... from BJ Hinshaw. BJ adds "Marblehead also had a fair number of bths,
dths. and mars. from 1769 to post 1800. I don't have the Essex Co. probate
index to look up through 1840 but there was no probate listing through 1681
for any Anderton. It is possible that there were Andertons in the other
eastern MA counties...or that the above were mostly misspellings of
Anderson..."

Essex Antiquarian vol 4 page 156
... from Frank Grimes. Brian transcribed the details thus ...
"James Anderton of Newbury 1690 - James Anderton of Newbury, yeoman, 1738,
when he conveys his dwelling house and land to his daughter Rebecca and land
to his son James Anderton of Newbury.
Sarah Stickney of Newbury, spinster, conveys house and land in Newbury which
she inherited from her deceased brother James Anderton of Newbury, 1746.
Above information from Registry of deeds. Also same page James Anderton jr,
married Rachel Stanwood both of Newbury 11/22/1733 from Newbury town record
and registry of deeds on administration of his estate 3/25/1745.
I also checked other genealogy sources I have and nothing else found. Vitals
Newbury show the death of James Jr.2/6/1745 in his 50th year."

Has anyone anything more to add or have any comments? Further reading
convinces me that these Andertons were 'Puritans' and need not have been
related to the Catholic Andertons of Marylands. The English Civil War had
given Britons of all walks of life and manner of worship reason to seek a new
life in America.
My thanks to all who replied, Good Luck to all
