Hi all:

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but if you get the chance
to read Laurel Thatcher Ulrich's "A Midwife's Tale: The Life of Martha
Ballard, Based on Her Diary, 1785-1812", I would highly recommend it. Along
with excerpts from the diary, Ulrich has included an extraordinary amount of
outside information, including the family of Martha and Ephraim, history of
Hallowell, midwifery, and daily life. And though it's an academic book, it's
a pretty easy read.
