Betty, YES, I think this is same line of DEXTERs that I have!! Have been
looking forever for them. Most of mine are earlier than yours, but I'm
pretty sure it's the same line.
(But I'm not sure how your line goes, the way it came through on email. Is
this right?
Joseph Dexter, b1850 ENG
Gregory Dexter, b1610 ENG
John Dexter, b1652 Prov, RI
John Dexter, b1692 Prov, RI
Benjamin Dexter, b1722 Prov, RI
Thomas Dexter, b1752 Rehoboth, MA
William Dexter, b1795 Killingly, CT
John Dexter, b1837 Killingly, CT
(What's confusing me is that the dates run in both directions!)
Briefly, here's what I have:
1)Nathaniel Balch DEXTER, b prob in England, came to Pawtucket, RI sometime
in 1600's (lots of leeway there!), marr Unkn. Willard. He was a tailor.
2) Son was (Rev.) Gregory DEXTER, b 1610 @ Olney, Northhamptonshire, Eng. Was
an associate of Roger Williams. Marr Abigail Fullerton (no info on her)
3) Stephen DEXTER, b 1Nov 1641 @ Providence, RI., d 1679. Marr Abigail
WHIPPLE, b ca 1658 @ Providence, d 19 Aug 1725 @ Providence, marr 2) William
Hopkins. She was d/o (Capt.) John & Sarah (Darling??) WHIPPLE.
4) John DEXTER, (bir & dea dates unkn.), marr Mary FIELD, b 1 June 1673, d/o
Thomas 7 Martha (Harris) FIELD.
5) Sarah DEXTER, b Apr 1703, d 30 ct 1779; marr (apt.)
