Many people forget that the founding fathers or our nation were very
religious people and religion influenced their everyday lives.
In fact, in Massachusetts until the late 1700's it was a state law that a
minister be called to therve the town before the town could be
incorporated. This was the case in Bedford, Massachusetts in 1729. The town
voted on who they wanted to be the pastor of the town's church. This
continued until about 1833.
