1850 Census for Blandford has a family headed by Sylvester Peebles, with a
John, age 25. The wife's name appears to be Crucia, and the Vital Records
for Granville, MA record the marriage of a Sylvester Peebles and Crucia
Cannon of Blandford on 2 Dec 1822. The LDS' IGI has a record of a number of
children (submitted by a member, but probably derived from VR) for children
of Sylvester and Crucia, including John Loring Peebles, 10 Oct 1824 in
Blandford.

Subject: [GM-L] Cook(e) and PEEBLES
I am looking for information on two Surnames. Cook(e) and Peebles.
1. Cook - I have tracked mostly through internet resources my CLARK family
lineage via Samuel Clark b. 1729 and to a Mary Cook b. 1745 both in
Middletown, CT who I cannot seem to prove is the daughter of Marcy Young &
Jacob Cooke (Jacob being related to Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower...).
I have the following circumstantial evidence:
Jacob and Marcy moved to Otis, MA in the Berkshires from Eastham,
Barnstable, MA via Middletown, CT; Samuel Clark established a
multi-generation family homestead one town over in Tolland. This would
support that they were in the same area at the same time.
Jacob and Marcy had a child in Middletown named Mary b. 1745 (according to
"Middletown Vital Records from Barbour, 1668-1852")
Mary Cook m. Samuel Clark 1/1/1756 had a notation in the left margin "also
spelled Marcy and Mercy" (according to same source).
? So did my relative marry the same girl at 11 yrs old or was there another
Mary Cook who was not born in Middletown, CT?
2. Peebles - More straight forward issue of missing history.
I know John Loring Peebles b. 1825 - lived in Blandford, MA was my G-Great
Grandfather. I don't know anything prior.
Family lore states that they were related to the 'Ulster Scots' who settled
Pelham, MA 1738.
Married Elnora P Smith b. 1840 had Warren J. who was my Great Grandfather b.
1859.
Thanks in advance for any information provided.
Regards,
Todd Clark
