Subject: [GM-L] High School Yearbooks - Another Source !
Date: Sun, 10 Aug 2003 06:21:52 -0400

Good morning,

I'd like to remind people of another source for genealogy information --
High School Yearbooks ! Or, College Yearbooks!
Or, that good, old-fashioned term, Junior High School Yearbooks!
:o)

I don't know about currently, but in the 1950's and 1960's, the address of
the student was included, along with their full name. And, combining that
with the year the person graduated, you would get a pretty good picture of
their birthyear, etc. And, don't forget that names of teachers are
included in the yearbooks.

We were watching the Bobby DARIN concert on Channel 2 last evening, and my
friend said that Bobby had performed at the "Totem Pole" back in the 1960's.
That is where we had our Senior Prom ! (Norumbega Park)

I don't think people should post information from their "yearbooks" to the
List, but perhaps people could offer to do look-ups !!

One man who graduated with me in Arlington .. happened to go on a business
trip to New York City .. on "9/11" and happened to get hit by "falling
debris." He didn't get killed immediately, but spent many months in a
coma in a NYC hospital. One day he was a local man, employed by the
I.R.S., and in yesterday's newspaper, they announced that there is a bronze
plaque now sitting outside the I.R.S. building in Washington, DC, with David
BERNARD's name on it!

When we go to high school with fellow teen-agers from the town or city we
were living in at the time, we never know ... the paths those teen-agers
will take. One girlfriend from my Class spent many years living in
Africa because her husband was a Diplomat. Their children were born in
Africa! One teen-age boy from our Class has been a long-time 6 pm News
Anchor in RI.

I like to watch the Biography Shows on TV, and am amazed each time at the
people who grew up in the poorest of families in the poorest of
neighborhoods who ... grew up to become ... someone that the whole world
knows about, .. someone like ... Leslie Towne HOPE! Each story support
s my theory that ... some people are born into our world - with a specific
GOAL! There is a Heavenly reason why they were living on this Earth at a
particular time in our world's history! In the same timeframe, I believe
that Shirley TEMPLE was another example of .. someone meant to be here!

As I told a younger adult this summer, one who didn't think he wanted to
bring children into this world (this not-so-happy, dangerous world we live
in) (according to some people), .. what if .... it was your child .. who
was going to grow up and do his or her part in making our world ... a NICER
world to live in!

One of my regrets is that, even though we have entertainers or politicians,
for example, who are known around the world - say in 2003 - I can't think of
any right at this moment ..who are a "world citizen" as Bob HOPE was!

(Oh, excuse me, since it is Sunday morning, and .. "Mr. ROGERS" has just
come on TV, I have just been reminded of ... religious leaders .. But, I
would prefer not to start any "religious discussions" on this .. Board.)

Enjoy your Sunday! Only three weeks left until "Labor Day" and the
"unofficial end of summer." One suggestion .. even on a rainy, humid
Sunday is to ...

"Climb Every Mountain! Ford Every Stream!
Follow Every Rainbow .. Until You Find .. Your .. Dream!"
