Hi Susan,

Pliny Hannum son of Moses Hannum, Jr. that married Polly Arnold was an uncle
to Pliny Hannum son of Stiles Hannum [Stiles brother to Pliny that married
Polly Arnold above, and also a son of Moses Hannum, Jr.] that married Eliza
C Russell. It gets more confusing because Pliny m Polly also had a son named
Pliny.

Pliny Hannum [son of Moses Hannum, Jr] b 9 Jan 1784 married Polly Arnold 8
July 1808 Belchertown, Hampshire Co., MA. Polly was the daughter of Samuel
Arnold -- nothing further known including her birth and death dates.

Pliny Hannum [son of Pliny Hannum & Polly Arnold] b 1815 and died 1817
Belchertown, Hampshire Co., MA - died at about 2 years of age and of course
never married/no descendants.

Pliny Hannum [son of Stiles Hannum, son of Moses Hannum, Jr] b 14 June 1829
married Eliza C Russell b 1836 they were married on 23 December 1855
Belchertown, Hampshire Co., MA

Hannum, MA of Columbus, Ohio, "William Hannum of New England & Some of His
Descendants," (1936 Published by the Society NEHGR Boston, MA Volumes 90
and 91. Some is from my research of Census data and multiple other sources.

Stiles Hannum b 18 Dec 1786 Belchertown, Hampshire Co., MA died 29 November
1860 Macon Township, Bureau Co., IL -- Source: US 1860 Census: Stiles is
listed as living in Macon Township, Bureau Co., IL. additonal source is a
letter written by Fred Reynolds, [I hand copied before we had copiers, and
is now in my aunt Alice's possession] son of Mary Hannum - daughter of
Stiles Hannum. Mary Hannum married John Dickinson Reynolds. Fred wrote the
letter to his cousin my great great grandfather sometime in the 1930's and
gave the family history moving from Belchertown to Illinois including
grandpa Stiles moving with them. The only part of his letter that I've found
to be in error was stating that our Revolutionary War ancestor was Pliny
Hannum. There are no Pliny Hannum's listed anywhere with service in the
Revolutionary War. It may be that either Moses Hannum, Sr. or Moses Hannum,
Jr. both my ancestors and both of whom served in the War of the Revolution
may have been nicknamed Pliny or had a middle name Pliny??? but that is
unknown to us at this time and is not recorded in the genealogy.

While Family Search can be a great resource for clues, little of the
research that I've seen for my families has been documented with any
reliable sources.

Hope this helps clear up the confusion.
