Hello,
I placed more queries to find out about the parents of Nathaniel PEABODY and his wife, the former Elizabeth PALMER, and I have received a few responses.
According to one researcher, the "History of New Boston, NH" has Nathaniel as the son of Francis PEABODY who settled there in 1779. (Nathaniel b1774 MA)
According to another researcher, a "PEABODY genealogy," has Dr. Nathaniel PEABODY as the son of Isaac PEABODY, and in the line:
John, Francis, Isaac, Matthew, Isaac, Nathaniel.
Nathaniel PEABODY, I'm told, married Elizabeth PALMER in Nov. 1802 in Andover, MA.
According to another researcher, Elizabeth PALMER was the daughter of Jeremiah and Elizabeth PALMER, and she was born in Feb. 1778 in Watertown, MA. But, nothing else was said about Jeremiah PALMER.
I had seen one or two references to a William PALMER arriving in Watertown, MA, in the 1630's. And, according to the "History of Watertown," he removed to Newbury, MA, then Portsmouth and Hampton, NH. But, I just checked the archives of the PALMER message board at www.genforum.com
and found this seemingly good information:
"I should have looked at "Palmers in America" before posting my last message, I got two of them mixed up myself. There appear to be four different William1 Palmers in New England by 1650, as follows:
a. William1 Palmer of Plymouth/Duxbury who came on the "Fortune" in 1621
b. William1 Palmer who settled in New Hamsphire
c. William1 Palmer of Watertown, MA in 1636 then Wethersfield, CT, then Branford, CT, then back to Wethersfield, then Westchester, NY
d. "Lt." William1 Palmer of Yarmouth, MA in 1638/39, then Newtown, Long Island, then Greenwich, CT
It is this last William1 Palmer that is the ancestor of Jacomiah, the line would be
Reuben5 m. Bertha McWithey
Jacomiah4, b. in Greenwich ca. 1727 m. ???
William3, b. 1694 in Greenwich, d. Nine Partners, NY in 1786 m. Rachel Fowler
William2, b, ca. 1654 in Newtown, d. 1723/24 m. Mary Tyler
Lt.William1 m. Judith Feake"
Note: I am still not finding very much information on the PALMER families in MA and NH during the 1700's.
FYI: As I've mentioned before, I am not related to these families. I have just become very curious about the well-known "Three PEABODY Sisters of Salem" (MA) and their parents. (1800's)
