Ellen,

There were old (and formerly neglected) adjoined cemeteries in Santa Rosa,
California that had been privately owned before the land reverted to the city.
A non-profit group was formed to maintain and repair grave stones. They have
several really fun and informative graveyard tours every year to raise funds.
They welcome volunteers to help with groundskeeping and have had sections
adopted by scouts, school classes (kids as young as second grade can pull weeds)
and adult service groups. Educationally, it is an excellent way to teach our
history.
