We have lived in Chester County, outside of Philadelphia for 45 years,
previously in Ballston Spa, NY for a few years, and started out in western
Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh and Canonsburg in Washington County for me. My husband's
family are Scotch Irish on both sides, most of them arriving around 1812/15.
(Faloons,Hustons, Galbreaths, Dill, Parker, Fleming, Crain, etc.) My father's
grandparents came from Germany (Silesia) in the 1850's, and one grandfather was a
Mason. He founded the Germanic chapter of the Masons in Boston in 1856, from
what I have been told, (Ruppelt, Weinhold, Sauer, Sedler who settled in St.
Louis.)
My mother [Ethel]'s side is divided. Her mother, Emma Rachel Hildreth, came
from a long line of Hildreths who arrived in Massachusetts in the 1630's.
Emma's husband's family, Pooks, were from Dartmouth, England but migrated to
Canada in 1851, so my great grandfather could have more property to farm. In
Ontario, Canada he bought 300 acres but only had 50 acres in Dartmouth because
there was no more land available). Emma's husband, Charles, an insurance agent,
immigrated to the USA sometime between 1880 and 1885. They lived in both
Cincinnati and Lowell, MA.
My grandmother, Emma Hildreth Pook, was the daughter of William Jenks
Hildreth who was born in Saco, ME., (son of Hosea and grandson of Hosea and who lived
in Chelmsford/Westford, MA). I cannot find out the name of William's wife.
William moved to Kentucky and married "Virginia"and eventually moved to
Cincinnati.. The census shows her as Virginia and Virginia E. The Hildreth books
show her name as Rachel Elliot Cheeseman from "Virginia". I have had two
searches done and neither has come up with her name. My other problem is my husban
d's great grandfather, John Rothrock Wagoner, born in 1812 in Center County,
PA. Can't find any parents. After marrying Elizabeth Galbreath, they moved to
the Johnstown, PA area, according to the census, and then to Westmoreland and
Indiana counties near there. My husband's father was James Presley
McDonald, a Presbyterian minister, son of James Nickel McDonald, husband of Mary
Torrence, daughter of Robert Torrence in Fayette County.
Would love to know if any of you on the list have any of my missing
information.
