Luther Willard descendant of one of Harvard's oldest families

Old Harvard Family
Luther Willard was born in the family home which stood next door to his
present house
until Thanksgiving Day, 1910, when it was destroyed by fire. His father was
born in the old Willard homestead down the road – now St. Benedict's center
– and his great-grandfather's name is on many of the property deeds in the
Still River area. "The entire area of Groton and Harvard was granted as a
charter by the King of England to Major Simon Willard, and my family traces
back to one of Major Simon Willard's sons," he says. The other Willard
family in
Still River is no direct relation, Luther says, but they are descended from
another of Major Simon's sons.
