The County Gore was originally a 10,000 acre tract adjacent to both
Oxford and Charlton, but part of the former. The residents of County
Gore became dissatisfied with their representation in Oxford town
matters, and in 1757 it was annexed to Charlton, forming what became
known as the Charlton Northside.
