Subject: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] question concerning portion of MA that became NYor Conn
Date: Sat, 9 Sep 2006 18:46:26 -0400
Hello
I hope that this is ok for this list. I am seeking a means of finding this info:
What portion of MA became either NY or Conn after 1795? Are there maps showing these locations perhaps? I have an ancestor I am seeking, name of Samuel Davis Slater who on one census in Illinois, 1850 states he was from Mass, on the 1860 census he claims Conn. I am hoping, since he was a prominate Doctor in Illinois that he was not simply hiding, and telling un true statements to the census taker.
IN case anyone might know this name:
Samuel Davis Slater, born 1801 in MA or NY or Conn, died 1870 Galesburg, Illinois. Married to Amanda Malvina Stafford, daughter of Caleb and Rebecca Stafford.
Thank you
Lisa C
