Subject: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] WHIPPEY/WHIPPY thoughts...
Date: Fri, 4 May 2007 15:03:24 -0700 (PDT)

Hello GEN-MASS Listers:

Per WHIPPY descendant in the South Seas:

"I don't have sepcific records of this. But I do have
history of Whippeys and why the "e" was dropped, due
to making division between the England Wippey's and
Whippys of American Indian and African American
descent. At the time, all those who were working for
the Whippey's from England were to take on the
family's name, but were to spell it differently, to
make the distinction. (this is all very general info
though, I would like to do more research). Also, I
just remembered that when I looked into African
American cemetry records there were whippy's,
coffin's, pinkhams etc."

Any thoughts?
....

Regards,
