Before your trip to Plymouth I would strongly suggest reading two books.
The first being "Mayflower" by Nathan Philbrick. The second is "Cape Cod",
by
William Martin. The first is a factual account of the period after the
landing in Plymouth and the
relationship that developed between the Pilgrims and the Indians. The
second is a novel
based on a lot of known evidence about the landing.

It is very easy for some to criticize and debunk the story. While much of
it has been
glamorized, the more it is studied, the more fascinating it becomes. Today
Americans
tend to become apologists for everything a close look at both side of an
issue
tend to open a lot of new doors. Living a short distance from Plymouth and
in a
town that was one of the second or third areas settled it is a great study.

It puzzles me how someone who lived in Easton found it necessary to move to
Maine
because condos were being built in Plymouth. But, hey.

Enjoy the trip to Plymouth. The reading will really help appreciate and
give
a better understanding. The "Rock" is worth seeing. But then go to the
library
or more reading and see how this rock got to where it is. Was it "the
place"
where the Pilgrims actually touched first? Maybe not, but then is any real
harm in thinking that it might have been. And does anyone know for sure
that
it wasn't. No.

Welcome to the area. I think you'll find it interesting.

We are planning a trip to Gettysburg and that area this summer. I hope
no one tries to minimize what happened there for us.
