Subject: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Convicts to America
Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2007 09:21:49 EDT
There was some diiscussion on the list a short while ago about indentured
servants/slaves/convicts.
The following link is a short list of some who were found guilty of a crime
(grand larceny) and were to be transported to America. It also gives the
length of their sentence.
It was the outbreak of the Revolution which stopped hte transpoirting of
convicts to America.
I found it interesting that the term of servitude for an indentured srevant
was usually 7 years, and the term of "incarceration", if not a life sentence,
was 7 years.
