Samuel Worcester, a Representative to the General Court, from Bradford,
Mass., died in the road, on
the night of February 20, 1681, in what is now Saugus - on his way to
Boston, to attend an adjourned
session. He was the son of Reverend William Worcester and was a man
distinguished for his piety and
enterprise. He had walked from Bradford and, much wearied, gained the Tavern
at Saugus. Being unable
to obtain accomodation there, he endeavored to reach the house of a friend.
In the morning, he was found
dead in the middle of the road. He was of the family from which Rev. Doctor
Worcester, the Congregational
Minister, who for some time supplied the pulpit at Swampscot.
