Subject: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Florence or Thomas Harriman marriage 1897
Date: Mon, 26 Nov 2007 08:31:03 -0800

Greetings Listers,
The actual MVR 1841-1910 Index lists a marriage of Thomas G Harriman,
recorded in Manchester, 1897 vol 469 pg 461. The image for that page
shows a Florence G. Harriman of North Adams. Her marriage to George
A. McGilpin of North Adams is also recorded in North Adams, 1897 vol
469 pg 78. That image is not on the NEHGS website, but the webmaster
has sent me a copy of the microfilm image. The minister performing
the marriage is an Arthur E. Harriman of Manchester, most likely a
relative of Florence. Right now, it looks like the original clerks
that typed the index put Thomas down when they should have
written/typed Florence. I will ask the webmaster to add an entry for
Florence for the Manchester page, but due to the contract with the
state archives he can't remove the entry for Thomas. Hopefully, the
original clerks just carried the name Thomas over from a previous
entry and we aren't missing an entry. I have never heard exactly what
the process was when the Vital Records folks developed the index, so
can't guess how they made the error.

If any of the listers interested in North Adams would like a copy of
the image for vol 469 pg 78, please email me off-list.

Just wanted to get this out there so someone looking for Harrimans
knows what is happening.
