Jonathan Tarbell (Thomas,4 Thomas,3 Thomas,2 Thomas 1) married at Groton,
Mass., Dec.
12, 1754, Lydia, dau. of Ebenezer and Elizabeth (Whitney) Farnsworth, b.
Dec. 20,1729.
Jonathan Tarbell was in the French & Indian wars, from Groton. He died prior
to March
11, 1788, when administration upon his estate was requested. The settlement
of his
estate, dated April 8, 1789, was made between wife, Lydia and the four
children named
below. Lydia died prior to September 10, 1806, according to deeds. Children
born at
Groton:
1. Jonathan Tarbell b. Oct. 23, 1755.
2. Thomas Tarbell b. Oct 17, 1758; m. July 21, 1789, Molly Farnsworth.
3. Ebenezer Tarbell b. Sept 10, 1762; m. Jan 14, 1783, Sarah Warren.
4. Solomon Tarbell b. Sept 10, 1762 (twin) died at Lunenburg, March 17, 1856
aged
93 yrs., 6 mos., 7 days; m. Feb 17, 1785 Molly Bennett who died at Lunenburg
June 7,
1852, aged 91 yrs. Each at the time of death was "the oldest inhabitant" of
that town.
David5 Tarbell (Thomas,4 Thomas,3 Thomas,2 Thomas1) lived at Pepperell. He
married at
Groton, Nov 17,1757, Bathsheba, perhaps the dau. of Moses & Ether (Houghton)
Woods, born
in that town, Nov 3, 1739. No record of her death has been found, but
perhaps this is the
David who m. July 2, 1772, Esther Kemp of Groton. No record of his death and
no Will or
settlement of his estate has been found.
Children recorded at Pepperell:
1. David Tarbell b. Feb 2, 1759; d. Mar 17, 1833; m. May 19, 1789, Hannah
Wright, who
died July 24, 1846, aged 76. He, and afterwards his widow, were
Revolutionary pensioners.
2. Hannah Tarbell b. Feb. 5, 1761; m. Dec 11, 1781, Ebenezer Lakin Shattuck.
3. Sybil Tarbell b. April 4, 1763; m. Sept 8, 1784, James Shattuck.
4. Asa Tarbell b. May 30, 1765.
5. Eunice Tarbell b. June 6, 1767; m. Oct 17, 1795, Moody Shattuck.
6. Bathsheba Tarbell b. Sept 18, 1775.
7. Betsey Tarbell b. May 19, 1785.
According to the Shattuck genealogy, there were also:
8. Nancy Tarbell b. Sept 9, 1773; m. Nov. 24, 1794, Josiah Shattuck
9. Amy Tarbell who m. as his 2nd wife, Dec 1, 1804, James Shattuck.

William4 Tarbell (William,4 Thomas,3 Thomas,2 Thomas,1) probably lived in
that part
of Groton that was set off as the district of Pepperell in 1753. He m. May
22, 1745,
Sarah, dau. of John & Sarah (Longley) Woods, born at Groton, May 6, 1726.
William died
at Pepperell, Aug. 11, 1757 in his 39th year and Sarah married (2) Jan. 4,
1759, Charles
Witherell. She died at Pepperell, Nov. 11, 1790, in her 64th year, and is
buried beside
her 1st husband, her gravestone being "Erected by ye Tarbell heirs."

1. William Tarbell b. April 6, 1746; m. Dolly Brooks.
2. Nehemiah Tarbell b. Oct 3, 1747; m. at Townsend, Mass., Dec 19, 1776,
Martha Dodge.
3. Sarah Tarbell b. March 26, 1750; prob. the Sarah who m. Mar. 20, 1772,
Josiah Warren.
4. Susanna Tarbell b. Mar 24, 1752; died Dec 31, 1766 in her 15th year.
5. Jonas Tarbell b. Dec 7, 1754.
6. Joseph Tarbell b. Aug 8, 1757; settled at Norridgewock, Maine. He was a
Revolutionary
pensioner.
John5 Tarbell (William,4 Thomas,3 Thomas,2 Thomas1) lived at Groton. He m.
(1) Oct 29,
1753, Sarah, perhaps dau. of John & Mary (Bradstreet) Parker, who died,
s.p., April 19,
1754, in her 29th year. He m. (2) Hannah, dau. of David & Hannah (Hastings)
Farnsworth.
He died Sept 9, 1802, leaving a Will dated Dec 28, 1797, in which he names
wife Hannah,
sons John, Asa, Peter and Abel and daughters Sarah Longley, Alice Woods,
Elizabeth Moors
and Hannah Tarbell, daughter-in-law Sarah Tarbell, widow, and her child.
His widow sur-
vived him many years, and died Aug 6, 1829, aged 93 years, 8 months. In her
Will dated
May 27, 1823, she mentions sons Asa, Abel and Peter, three daughters, Sarah
Shipley,
Betsey Moors and Hannah Chamberlain and five grandchildren, children of her
son, Asa.

at Pepperell. He died June 17, 1805, in his 80th year. She was living in

Azubah Farnsworth, dau. of Jonas & Thankful (Ward) Farnsworth at Groton,
Mass., born
June 3, 1740. They lived to see the 64th anniversary of their marriage, he
dying a few
days after on Jan. 25, 1825. Azubah died March 14, 1838, being the oldest
person at
Groton at the time of her death. Children:
1. Benjamin Tarbell b. Feb. 19, 1762; was a Revolutionary pensioner; living
in Cheshire
Co., New Hampshire in 1835.
2. William Tarbell b. Oct 13 (Oct 19 by the family Bible) 1764; was three
times married;
a Revolutionary pensioner; died Aug. 3, 1851.
3. Jonas Tarbell b. Feb 17, 1767.
4. Daniel Tarbell b. March 9, 1769.
5. Sybil Tarbell b. May 28, 1771; prob. the one who m. June 16, 1795, Joseph
Wheelock
of Annapolis, Nova Scotia.
6. Joseph Tarbell baptized Sept 19, 1773.
7. Azubah Tarbell b. October 20, 1775.
8. Amos Tarbell b. January 31, 1778.
9. Alice Tarbell b. June 26, 1782; died unmarried, May 31, 1836.
Oliver5 Tarbell (William,4 Thomas,3 Thomas,2 Thomas,1) lived at Groton and
Pepperell.
He served in the Revolutionary War. His wife, Lucy (surname not ascertained,
was apptd.
administratrix of his estate, June 9, 1783. An account of the estate,
rendered by her
September 22, 1784, includes allowance for supporting three children, under
seven years
of age, 18 months. Children all baptized at Groton:
1. Oliver Tarbell b. April 15, 1766; died May, 1766.
2. Lucy Tarbell b. June 6, 1767; died Jan 14, 1770.
3. Oliver Tarbell b. April 26, 1769.
4. Lucy Tarbell b. June 2, 1771.
5. Anna Tarbell bapt. June 26, 1774.
6. Sarah Tarbell bapt. July 13, 1777.
7. Silas Tarbell bapt. Aug 1, 1779.
Samuel5 Tarbell (Samuel,4 Thomas,3 Thomas,2 Thomas,1) in contrast to all
other contempor-
ary member of this family, was a Tory. He was no doubt influenced in some
degree by the
Reverend Samuel Dana, then minister of Groton, whose Tory principles were so
objection-
able

to his people as to cause his dismissazl from that church. Samuel Tarbell
was at one
time confined in the "goal" at Concord, Mass., "for being concerned in
counterfitting
Hampshire State notes," and giving support to the enemies of his country.
His property
at Groton was confiscated by the Commonwealth, in common with that of other
Tories. He
held a position in the British army, as shown by the notice of his death in
a Boston
newspaper of that time, which reads: (died) "At Groton, the 4th inst.,
Samuel Tarbell,
late an officer in his Britannic Majesty's American Dragoons." His wife,
whose name was
Mary, was living in 1813, according to a deed. Four children survived him:
1. Rebecca Tarbell. Administration upon the estate of Rebecca Tarbell, late
of Boston,
singlewoman, was granted to Joseph Newhall of Boston, September 11, 1798.
2. William George Tarbell.
3. Charlotte Tarbell who m. Thomas T. Cunningham.
4. Sally Tarbell.
5. a child buried July 5, 1795.
