Deceased Name: Alvah L. Brown
Alvah L. "Brownie" Brown, 73, of the Florence section died Tuesday at Cooley
Dickinson Hospital. He was a boiler-room engineer at Westover Air Force Base
(now Air Reserve Base) in Chicopee, and worked previously at Smith & Wesson
Corp. of Springfield. Born in Springfield, he lived in Florence since 1958.
He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of the Michael Curtin Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post in Florence, president of the Bear Hill Golden Agers, a
member of the Military Order of the Cooties, and the annual poppy chairman
for the Veterans Administration. He also was a volunteer at the Veterans
Affairs Medical Center in the Leeds section for 30 years. His wife, the
former Yolande Crandall, died last year. He leaves two sons, Hubert Moore of
Indianapolis and Dan Moore of Preble, N.Y.; a daughter, Lonann Patenaude of
Florence; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be
Friday morning at O'Connell Funeral Home. A private burial will be at the
convenience of the family. Calling hours are this afternoon and evening.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 30
Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, or the Diabetes Foundation, 813 Williams
St., Longmeadow, MA 01106.
