Betty -

The Society has always been "The New England Historic Genealogical
Society." I do not have the early covers to look at, but the masthead
of its quarterly journal has always read "The New England Historical
and Genealogical Register." What is on eBay is likely a bound 1853
volume of the Register, as Drake was its editor in that year. I have
seen bound volumes of the Register where the binding title is at
variance with the masthead, often incorporating "Antiquarian" in some way.

They are the papers of Thomas Hutchinson, Lieutenant Governor of
Massachusetts from 1771 to 1774 and an avid historian of the
Commonwealth. Two volumes of his papers were published by the Prince
Society for Mutual Publication in the 1860s. The Prince Society was
founded by NEHGS members for the purpose of publishing primary source
materials.
