Thanks to theclown for the 3 emails regarding lucas in Boston.
Will come back with more when I get to work with the information. Am still looking for where & when in England. (I will be going to France in July to work on my present husband's genealogy).

In the meantime, do you have some magic on the name BENSE? Bense is my brickwall. Lucas is my children's grandmother.

What I know - Peter Bense, b. 4/6/1811, d. 2/21/1878, married Elizabeth Emmes, b. abt 4/1811, d. 3/19/1884 in Boston.
First child was born about 1835, last one 1856. They are buried in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Boston marriages has 8/17/1834 between Peter and Elizabeth Dense (by Rev. M. Motte) . Also 4/3/1828 Elizabeth Emmes & Benjamin Dense. Do I assume these two are my Elizabeth Emmes? Earlier marriage records that I saw in Salt Lake City between Peter Bense & Elizabeth Emmes said his parents were Peter and Mary.

Now here is the mess. Looking for parents & grandparents, and country of origin. How do I sort out the Peters? My first find was at NEGHS, as recorded in Columbian Centinel 1784-1840, A Peter BENSE died 4/19/1808

1798 Boston City Directory has a laceweaver on Summer St.
Early History of Boston 1752-1809 has a marriage of a Peter Bense to Mehitabel Laskey 4/27/1786.

Sounds to me as if I have total of 3 generations of Peters, or two different families.

There was one Bense family in Canton, Norfolk, MA (William the printer who was born in Boston & died 1899 at 80+ years.
I have not found a tie to his family, but could be there. His parents were George S. Bense (b. Boston) & Barbara Shaw (b. Norton). 1860 census has William b. 1818 in Conn.

Thanks, Barb in VT
