I belong to a group researching Mc/MacNeils from Cape Breton. If you are interested in joining this online group please let me know and I will arrange to send you an invitation. The group was very helpful in assisting me with my McNeil relative even though she had left the province and travelled west. The group falls under the MyFamily.com organization.
There is no cost to join the group. It runs similar to the rootsweb board. You can post questions, photos, etc. Good luck with your research.
