Greetings,
For anyone that had been looking on newenglandancestors.org for
Massachusetts Vital Records for Newcomb death records between 1851-55
and for some strange reason didn't type in "New comb" with a space,
you probably didn't find 71 Newcomb entries. The 71 entries with the
alternate spelling are now spaceless. Also, I did check the Mass
State Archives index
http://www.sec.state.ma.us/vitalrecordssearch/vitalRecordsSearch for
a couple of the Newcomb entries to see how they are listed there and
they don't even show up and that included checking for all entries for
the town for that year.
If you have been searching for specific surnames and less entries
appear than you thought should be there (two or three Newcombs versus
70 plus) or no entries appear (Cheswell rendered as Cheawell for
example - also fixed today), please email me and I'll check the actual
index. If you actually find your Newcomb and realize there is an
error, please email me so the that entry and the rest can be fixed.
I'm actually just going through volumes that should have 1853 entries
for births, marriages, and deaths that have a year scanning error that
showing 1855 instead. The birth and marriage entries are all switched
over to 1853 (but not verified on that specific page) and I'm working
my way through the death records. A three rendered as a five is the
most common number scanning error in the database, so if you a
checking for an entry where the year should end in three, please check
entries listed for two years later. This is also true for volume and
page numbers. I've already fixed a few thousand of these and there
are a lot more left.
Best of luck on your search.
