Does anyone know if the residents pronounce the town name Montague with a Long A or a short A?
I just had an idea- We get some natives to pronounce the names of their towns and record them for posterity!
I will work on that. My Aunt lives in Leominster- Maybe she will do it when I am there in October.
Here's a list of 297 towns and 54 cities in the Commonwealth
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_municipalities_in_Massachusetts#List_of_municipalities
Don't you love to hear Scituate, Peabody, Worcester, Ashburnham (you know is it burn-HAM or bur'nam I think the H is silent)
Then beyond that list are untold villages that need to be recorded! Maybe there is a pronunciation guide out there for Weather forecasters or something- I think the Weather Channel does an amazing job of pronouncing local names.
In Oklahoma we have issues with places like Chickasha, Nowata, Gotebo, Miami, etc.
