If someone died during the winter in Colonial times, as I understand
it, the body was placed in a cold safe place, and then buried after
the ground thawed.

Is this correct? Can someone add details or examples? Might there
be extra records (maybe at a church) about the placement, moving,
and burial of the body?

Yes, I'm still looking for the burial of my ancestor Richard Hixson
who died 28 Jan 1717/18 in Dorchester (now Sharon). This info
might help others whose ancestor died during the winter.
