Hi Carol,
A small correction to you. :o) There is no S at the end of the name, according to the town's web site.
http://www.town.ststephen.nb.ca/
My ancestor, Joseph "Calvin" KIDDER, was born in that area in Jan. 1799 and grew up in St. Stephen, NB. He didn't leave NH until he was 30 and only moved over to Calais, ME, at the time.
Betty (near Lowell, MA)
(The boy grew up as Calvin KIDDER (1799-1891), and unfortunately his father, Calvin KIDDER, was killed in a boating accident one week after he was born. I suspect he was in that mailboat in the Bay which was heading over to St. Andrews, NB, to announce the birth of his first child.)
That does have an S at the end.

What I also have to keep track of is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_John,_New_Brunswick
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._John's,_Newfoundland_and_Labrador
(New Brunswick didn't annex off of Nova Scotia until 1784. And Maine did not become a State until 1820. And the Maine / New Brunswick border did not get settled until at least an 1842 Treaty.)

Another FYI is that in 1799 I believe the important border-river, St. Croix River, was then named the Schoodic River. The announcement of Calvin's death was made in the Town of Schoodic.)
