Hello,

I know the original question was 4 yrs. ago, and, yes, Fort Devens closed ~5-6 yrs. ago. But, I wanted to remind researchers that there was an "Army Air Corps." My father enlisted in that for WW II service. And, I'm almost positive he was centered at "Westover Air Base."

The history paragraph below says it was started as "Westover Field" in 1939.

In regard to Fort Devens, actually the "town" is still there, but the "Army Base" closed in 1996, so it was over 10 yrs. ago.

(Actually, the people who live in the part of Ayer and Shirley, MA, wanted to have Fort Devens incorporated as a town within the past few years. But, officials in either Ayer or Shirley denied the request.)
