Marriage records are held by the Town or City Clerk in the town or
city where the marriage took place. Divorce records from that time
frame are held by the Probate and Family Court where the divorce was obtained.

When location is unknown, the best option is to visit the Registry of
Vital Records and Statistics at Columbia Point in Boston:

http://www.mass.gov/dph/rvrs

They hold the state copies of birth, marriage and death records from
1915 to date. For an hourly research fee you can examine their
indices, then call for and examine the records (b., m., and d.
certificates). They will make certified copies for a fee. They also
hold indices to divorces since 1952 so you can locate the appropriate court.
