Hi again,
I took a quick look at census pages and found him:
ROSE, HUGH (1900 U.S. Census)
MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 2-WD CAMBRIDGE
Age: 37, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: IREL
Series: T623 Roll: 656 Page: 228
Both him and his parents were born in Ireland. I think his wife's name is Anastasia, and she also came from an Irish family. He arrived in 1880 and she arrived in 1881. They had been married for 15 years and had 3 children. The children, 12, 10, and 3 were born in MA. And they lived on Western Ave.
I checked the 1910 census and there were 111 ROSE people in Middlesex Co., and they came from many different countries. But, I'm not spotting Anastasia or the children that year. Is it possible she, as a young widow, moved out of state or returned to Ireland?
Betty (near Lowell, MA)
P.S. The 1870 census for MA had a Hugh ROSE mentioned, but he had come from Scotland.
