The normal migration of families after the revolutionary war would be from CT to Mohawk Valley and then further west in search of cheap arable land. The wells family followed that route. You have the issue also of the changing county boundaries and town names in western NY so a History of the local towns found on the NYGENWEB sites for the particular counties helps to add context. Worden and Yates are family names so a wife of someone may have had that maiden name.
I noted all the "Y" "G" issues and added a note to Ancestry.com on the census records. I was surprised to find the gravestone of Worden Y. 1830 on FindAgrave noting the initial Y. on it. Must be some connection not only between the families but a common ancestor or friend.
