Please excuse this post if it is not pertinent to your research, but a number of connections or coincidences in your thread, piqued my curiosity. My maternal grandfather, David Kaylo, came to the US from the Ukraine in 1901. His manifest name was David Hokails. Since I was a kid, I heard that the original family name was something like Hookailo and I was able to find David's brother's ship manifest from the year before, which read Israel Hokailo. Both of them were headed for the home of a "sister" on Auburn Street in Boston by the name of Elizabeth or later Lizzie (her death certificate says Leah), married name Gordon. It turns out that Lizzie was much more likely to have been a cousin than a sister because only her mother's maiden name was Hookailo.

Unfortunately, I have not as yet been able to tie my Hokailos or Hookailos to the earlier Boston Hookailos of Wendell's family, but I keep on running across relationships between the Hookailos and Gordons. Another example I have of the juxtaposition of these names occurs for a Tobe Gukailo who went to Kansas City and was to meet a cousin by the name of Leiser Gordon. Thanks for your attention.
