Hi Lisa,
Thanks for responding. I'm pretty sure that the Israel who is Wendell's father was not the Israel who was my grandfather's brother. Wendell's father was Israel Fred Hookailo and I have his WWII draft document. From other documents I have seen, I believe he went by Fred and his family was in Boston before my Hookailos were. My greatuncle was a jeweler just like my grandfather was, whereas Wendell's father owned or managed a movie theater. Also, I found a record in the Boston City directory of an Isidor Kaylo in 1902 who lived just down the block from the Gordons. That is the last record I have of him and I believe that he became Jacob Hookaylo taking back a form of the family name and living in Newark as a pretty successful jeweler. In any case, I believe that the Boston Hookailos are related to mine. I just haven't found support for the conclusion.
