SUICIDE IN CELL.

John Forrest hanged in Police Station 6.

Put on Probation About a Week Ago as a Drunk.

Second Arrest yesterday Was Enough.

He made Fatal Rope Out of His Handkerchief.

Half an Hour After Being "Run In" He Was Dead.

John Forrest, 49 years of age, a prisoner in station 6, on West Broadway, South Boston, committed suicide yesterday afternoon by hanging himself in his cell.

Forrest lived at 89 West 6th st. About 2:39 pm he was arrested by patrolman Shaw of that division on the charge of drunkenness and was assigned to cell 11. Just half an hour later he was found hanging in the cell. From the upper frame of the bunk he had suspended his handkerchief, the other end of which was tied about his neck.

The policeman who discovered the fact cut him down immediately, an d a physician was called to attend him, but before his arrival Forrest was dead.

The body was removed to the city hospital morgue and the medical examiner was notified.

About a week ago Forrest was in the South Boston court on the charge of drunkenness, and was put on probation throught the intercession of probation officer Parker. Yesterday Forrest was seen by Mr Parker on the streets in an intoxicated condition, and Mr Parker at once requested a patrolman to arrest him, which was done.
