Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, I am familiar with the older Elijah A. Leathe who you mentioned. I am trying to prove or disprove that the one who died in Tompkins County, NY is the son born to the older Elijah. The younger Elijah born in 1807 has been very difficult to track, and though I suspect the one shown in Dryden, NY in the 1870 census is the son to the older Elijah, I have no proof yet. There is a book written by William Cutter (it's online) which outlines the Leathe family in Woburn, Mass. In it is stated that the Elijah A. Leathe born in 1807 had two children (Nancy and Albert) by his first wife, but the book doesn't name either the first wife or the subsequent wife. In fact, it doesn't give much information about the younger Elijah as far as where he ended up or when he died. The Elijah in NY was married to Almina Leathe, a lady much younger than he, and I suspect she may be the second wife, but again, no proof. That's why I'm trying to find the death record !
or burial place for the one who died in NY to prove if he is the same one born in 1807 to Elijah and Margaret. Since the NY Elijah was born in Mass. (per the 1870 census) it's possible he is the son of Margaret and Elijah Leathe. I'm grateful for any information.
