Subject: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Movie: Golden Door - about immigrants

Yesterday was quiet and in the afternoon I found a movie to watch on one of the Cable channels: "Golden Door." It first came out in 2006 and I was surprised I had not heard of it. It's about a widowed father in Sicily who decides in 1904 to take his family "to America." It's a drama, very much so. It's sad, depressing, and yet historical. I almost changed the channel but decided to see how the movie ended. Fortunately, it has a pleasant ending (not sad; not happy). If you want to see a little of what immigrants went through from their decision to came to America, to going to a place where they can get on a ship, their travel experiences on the ship, and then at Ellis Island, you should try to watch it.
Nuovomondo literally, new world (The Golden Door) is a 2006 drama based around a family's migration from Italy to New York during the beginning of the 20th Century. The film is set in both Italy and The United States. The film is written and directed by Emanuele Crialese. Vincent Schiavelli, whose character was originally planned to play a major part, died during the filming, forcing his role to become a supporting character.
Just an FYI for you.
