To All:
Like many of you I was excited about the 1940 census coming on line as this
was the first one that I would be on. Since I knew my address finding
myself was not too difficult. What was a surprise was the utter nonsense that
was in the image, which led my to wonder about other censuses and how many
other people "fibbed" about their information. Not a good thing for we
genealogists. leading us on a "merry chase" with erroneous information! Also
makes one wonder about BMD records as I have found more errors than I care to
recount in them. One would think that marriage records would be accurate
since the participants themselves give the information. Not so. There are
mistakes and a little "fudging" there too. Human nature doesn.t change I
guess.
All and all, still enjoying the census!

Hello,
?
I was wondering if anyone knew how the progress is going for getting the
1940 Census indexed for MA.
?
Also, my husband's parents were living in East Cambridge in 1940.????? He
grew up on Gore Street but does not know where his parents were living at
the time of his birth.
?
And, my parents were not yet married in 1940.??? My mother's parents moved
back and forth between Somerville and Medford -? annually.??? So, I'd have
trouble finding them in 1940.??? My father's parents had divorced in 1935,
and each were living with other people in 1935.??? I'd have to check my
notes to see where they were living in 1940.????And, my father, as a teen,
went off to live in different places, before signing up to fight in WW II.

Hi Betty,

Per ancestry, all images are now available. Only two states, Delaware and
Nevada, are noted as Indexed. The progress message says
DC is 'in progress.'

Per ancestry:
*Image and Index status was updated at 4:09 am MDT, 06 Apr 2012.

Don't understand what's happening and why no updates/comments since then.

For now you can scroll the images. There are city directories from near
1940, and IF your area is covered and IF your family is
listed, then you can get a clue re their address in 1940. With an
address, you can use an ED [enumeration district] finder to try
to identify the section of images to scroll.

I did manage to find my maternal grandparents in Arlington and an aunt in
New York City.

I cannot find my paternal family in Cambridge. I do have a likely
address, but I didn't see that house number in the set of images
and now wonder if they managed to avoid being included. Only one ED is
suggested for the address, so it would take lots of
scrolling to see if somehow that house ended up listed elsewhere.

You might want to try this Enumeration District finder - which also has
images:

Just checked the Steve Morse site again, and this time found
