Subject: [LAWINN-L] New List: WPGHA-L
Date: Thu, 17 Dec 1998 01:27:23 -0500
Hi, folks --
We've set up a new list at RootsWeb for members of the Winn Parish
Genealogical and Historical Association: WPGHA-L. To subscribe, send
mail to with the word "subscribe" in the
message body. As an official list for this genealogy society, though,
there may be special rules about who may and may not subscribe: that's
for the listowner (Annette) to decide.
In turn, the LAWINN list (as I understand it) will adopt a more open
policy about who may and may not post genealogical queries on the
list.
This is my attempt to resolve a mistake we made when the LAWINN list
was originally set up last year. At the time, we didn't really
understand that this list was intended for official WPGHA members
only, and thought that it was going to operate in a more freewheeling
state like the USGenWeb lists that we host. That distinction seems to
have made a lot of other folks confused as well. In order to settle
the matter, I suggested to Annette that we create a new official WPGHA
list, and she agreed.
Hopefully this will settle things: anyone should be able to post
queries or notices about Winn Parish on this list, and the WPGHA list
will be there for WPGHA business.
(Note that listowners still have the right to manage lists in whatever
fashion they see fit. Despite this announcement, the LAWINN listowner
may still set forth policies on what kinds of posts are and aren't
appropriate here. What we're trying to do is come to a mutually
agreeable compromise that benefits the most people.)
Thanks for listening, and I'm really sorry about the confusion.
