84th Birthday of "Uncle John" Gaar On February 22nd

J. A. Gaar, an esteemed resident of Gaars Mill, reached the age of 84 on
Thursday, Feb. 22.

"Uncle John" as he is known by his friends, came to Winn Parish from Georgia
in 1857 with the pioneer Gaar family, which built the first Gaar home at a
place near the present New Hope Church, and he is the only surviving member of
the family.

Mr. Gaar was twice married, is the father of eight children, seven of whom are
living. They are J. M. Gaar and Mrs. Alma Dillion of Dodson, David E,. Gaar
of Natchitoches, Mrs. A. I. Talton of Winnfield, W. R., D. F., and Charles
Gaar and Mrs. Ross Kelly, of Gaars Mill.

He is the honorary president of the Gaar family reunion association which
holds a meeting at the New Hope Methodist Church every August. Mr. Gaar is a
member of this church, and has read the Bible habitually. He also keeps up
with current issues, and takes much interest in politics. His many friends
with "Uncle John" many more happy birthdays.
