Hope all of you on the Leitzel and Leitzell lists have a very "Happy New Year".

We just returned from spending 4 days in Nürnberg. It was at the end of a river boat trip on the Main River visiting little towns and their Christmas Markets. We will post some of the information on Johann Wolfgang Leitzel's home town of Nürnberg at a later date although we have no new exciting genealogical information.

The Christof Leitzel plate is no longer on display at the museum. They rotate their permanent displays from time to time; this was a disappointment to us.

The weather was cold but no snow. The Old City inside the walls was almost completely destroyed in the 1945 bombing of the City although the castle and some other parts did survive. The statues and paintings in St Sebald and St. Lorenz churches were saved by putting them underground prior to the bombing. Portions of the churches survived and the damaged portions rebuilt. You could never tell that they were even damaged by looking at them now; in fact most of the old city was rebuilt to look as it did before the war. It felt strange to walk into the two churches that served our Leitzel ancestors three and four centuries ago.

If anyone has any questions, let us know.
