Hi
As a reminder to everybody, I'd just like to run through the referencing
system for the project:
There are only two numbers we need to worry about because they are the
only ones that are unique:
- the Piece Number (in the 1891 Census, 1 - 541) and
- the Folio number which runs from 1 - XXX within each Folio. You can
clarify how many Folios each Piece has at the website.
A "Folio" refers to the front and back side of a sheet of paper, which
is why the Folio number is stamped on every *other* page.
Page numbers are useful in helping searchers go straight to the correct
image and especially for people who wish to order a photocopy.
Thumbnails are useful for other people who have the CDs, but I think it
best to ignore these altogether (a) because they bear no relation to the
real thing and that's not "proper" sourcing and (b) we have already had
one re-issue of discs with errata on - if scanned images have been added
in, the thumbnail numbers have presumably altered between Issue 1 and
Issue 2.
Hope that clarifies things a little!
Good luck
Kate
