For those of our who are researching the Siler family, the following may be
of interest to you.
Cornelia Holmes

House in the Horseshoe and Its Neighbors, by George Willcox, 1999

p.385 METHODISTS

The other location where Charles Dickerson preached, in 1814, was at a
meeting house at SILERS CAMPING GROUND. SILERS CAMPING GROUND is located east
of Carthage. The history of this group is not clear; however it appears
that this may have been at a location referred to in the following deed made
on 27 Oct 1817:

This indenture made 27 Oct 1817 between Frederick Siler in the county of
Moore to John Oats, Charles Stewart, Archie Reed, Wlliam Dickenson and
Cornelius Tyson, trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church........

The trustees listed in the deed above appear to have been trustees for a
conference rather than one church. John Oats lived on the Kinchen Kitchen
place on Herd's Creek; Charles Stewart's location is uncertain; William
Dickerson, possibly Willis, lived at the Street Place on Deep River; Archibald
Reed appears to have lived where he built a mill on Cranes Creek; and
Cornelius Tyson probably near Carbonton.

The names of the SILERS at SILERS camping ground were FREDERICK SILER and
JACOB SILER, who owned land near the headwaters of Governors Creek and
Cranes Creek, joining the land of Kinchen Kitchen. FREDERICK and JACOB SILER
were sons of PLIKARD SILER, founder of the SILER family in Chatham County.
PLICKARD was born in Germany and came by way of Pennsylvania to settle near
Siler city about 1764. FREDERICK and JACOB probably lived in the area only
a few years before moving west. PLIKARDS SILER'S daughter, MARGARET,
married THOMAS TYSON, and they raised a large family on Deep River near
present Carbonton.
