Today I visited the Kansas Historical Society's Center for Historical
Research to view microfilms of the 1850 Slave Schedules for Buncombe and
Nash Counties. I was taken aback when Nash County did not appear in the
Table of Contents of any of the NC reels. I loaded Roll M-654 in a viewer
and looked at the Table of Contents on the film itself - no Nash County.
Moore County is followed by New Hanover. I scanned through the roll to find
the end of Moore County; and sure enough, there on Page 202 was the
beginning of Nash County, which continues through Page 255.
The reason I'm posting this to the list is that the reel is as it was
provided by National Archives. The oversight is NARA's. So if anyone else
has turned away from the 1850 Slave Schedules thinking that Nash County was
not included, it was in name only. Try again the list is there. I only found
two of my ancestors there: Benjamin GLOVER and Alfred EURE, listed one after
another exactly as one the schedule.
