Dear Melinda - I hope you are still checking posting on this two year old query. My name is Wayne Ramsey Premo and I live in Denver. One of my grandfathers was Carl Wayne Ramsey from Lincolnton NC, who married Margie Evelyn Simpson in 1926. Margie's mother was Hattie Chunn Burke before she married John B.Simpson in Bessemer City NC in 1901. Hattie was born in 1874 and one of her brothers was Robert Pinckney Burke, b. Apr 29, 1877 either in Rowan Co or Catawba Co where this family lived before moving to Bessemer City, Gaston Co in 1896. Their parents were John Locke Burke, b. July 5, 1846, who fought in the Civil War, and Eliza Jane Chunn, b. Apr 28, 1851, daughter of Robert and Maria Chunn of Rowan Co, NC. John and Eliza were married Mar 6, 1872, probably in Rowan Co, near Salisbury, where this family emanates from. John and Eliza had nine children of which Robert P. was the third. He married Effie Jane Stone, b. June 24, 1881, on Oct. 30, 1901. They had six childre!
n: Robert Stone Burke, b. Sept 1, 1902; Fredric Cowan Burke, b. Sept 17, 1904; Sarah Irene Burke, b. June 2, 1906; John Locke Burke (Jr.?), b. July 31, 1908; Annie Laura Burke, b. Feb 13, 1914; and William "Billy" Preston Burke, b. Sept 30, 1917.
Sarah Irene Burke first married Gordon Raymond Teare and they had two children: Gordon Donald Teare and Darryl Rene Teare. Sarah Irene then married Robert Armstrong. Her children were adopted and changed their names to Armstrong. She then married Otho Sobanjo. (dates unknown).
