If you will look in the front of the 1790 NC Cenus book, it gives a list of
counties in each district.

now Cabarrus Co. was in the Salisbury District of Mecklinburg Co. in the
1790 census. Also Rowan co. included a much larger area including what is
now Davidson Co. in the 1790 census and many others earlier on, at one time
taking in what is now Forsyth and everything West.
