I do not think that William F. Murph could have been alive in 1918 when your Grandpa was a youngster, since that weould have made him 90 and his wife 100. What is the name of your grandfather, and do you know what church he and his parents went to as a child?
The 1900 US Census Salisbury Rowan Co., NC ED 113 sheet has the family
Murph, Franklin head of household white male b Mar 1840 age 60 married 37 years b NC
Murph, Lorella (another spelling for Laura) wife white female b Nov 1829 age 70 m 37 years has had 13 children 6 are still alive.
John A. son white male b Nov 1870 age 29 m within the year
Ida C daughter in law (wife of John A.) b Sep 1884 age 15 m no children. Everybody born in NC.
William Franklin and Laura [Lorella] Murph are not in the 1910 census but John A and Ida are there with two children.
Although the census is often wrong here and there this all seems to track pretty well.
