To add to the above from Rick, H-312 can confirm their ancestors to Bibb County, Alabama in the 1800's. Any Hamilton from Bibb County (8 families listed in 1850 census) would also be helpful to understand any other mutations that have occurred since Scotland.

While #178506 is not an exact match to Group I as Rick duscusses above, H-312 is a match to Group I and does share a common mutation with #178506 that is not shared with the rest of Group I. This may be another clue or link that warrants further tests from other Hamiltons.
