Aug 20,1987 Atkinson Graphic VETERINARIAN DR LYLE BEEBE DIES IN MISSOURI
Funeral services for Dr Lyle H Beebe, 88, of Warrensburg, Mo were held Aug 7 at Holdren Chapel, Warrensburg. He died Tuesday Aug 4 at Western Mo Medical Center.
Dr Beebe, who was born and reared in Atkinson, was the oldest licensed veterinarian in Missouri. He had lived in Warrensburg since 1930 and was the founder of B-B Veterinary Hospital.
He was born April 28,1899 in Atkinson, Nebr, the son of Milo and Myrtle Holmes Beebe. On June 24,1928 he married Alice Arter in Stuart, Nebr. In a story published earlier this year in the Daily StarJournal, Dr Beebe said he was born and reared on a cattle farm in western Nebr, where he took an interest in animals at an early age.
Dr Beebe graduated from Kan State u, Manhattan, Kan in 1930, with a doctorate in Veterinary medicine.
He worked with Dr J H McLevy for about two years. In 1934 he began working as an inspector for the U S Dept of Ag in Texas, returning to Warrensburg in 1937. He later established B-B Veterinary Hospital at 128 W Culton St. It was the first veterinary hospital in town.
Dr Beebe and his brother, Glen Beebe, later founded and operated the Beebe Brothers Sale Barn, now known as the Johnson County Livestock Market, and owned a slaughterhouse. Dr Beebe owned a farm north of Warrensburg. He retired in 1958.
In 1970, after 40 years of service, Mr Beebe received a lifetime membership in the Mo Veterinary Medical association. He was a member of the Warrensburg Elks Lodge and also was a deputy state veterinarian.
Mr Beebe was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen, Harold and Donald, and one sister, Beulah Cameron.
Surviving are his wife, Alice at home; two sons, Holmes Beebe, Republic and Charles Beebe, Leeton; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
